New Cultural Festival “Spelrum” Launches in Umeå This August
On August 29th, Umeå will introduce “Spelrum”, an innovative cultural festival designed to showcase the city’s diverse artistic landscape. Organized by Umeå Municipality and Visit Umeå, the event aims to create spaces for artists, associations, and cultural performers.
Festival Vision and Goals
“With this initiative, we want to create an arena where cultural actors and all different art forms get room to breathe. We will collaborate with established venues like NorrlandsOperan, Bildmuseet, and Umeå City Church, who will create their own programs during the day. We will also provide open stages in central Umeå, where anyone who wants can participate in the cultural festival,” says Adam Olofsson, project manager from Umeå Municipality.
A Platform for Creativity and Collaboration
Spelrum will take place across multiple locations in Umeå city center, bringing together cultural actors of all sizes. The festival represents an opportunity for Umeå to demonstrate its strength and diversity as a cultural hub.
“We want to strengthen local networks and create conditions for future collaborations, both within Umeå and with cultural actors in other cities, such as Vasa in Finland. Spelrum should be a platform for meetings between people, dialogue, and inspiration,” explains Elin Jonsson, project manager from Visit Umeå.
The Power of Culture in Changing Times
In an era marked by local, national, and global challenges, culture possesses a unique ability to unite and inspire. Through Spelrum, Umeå Municipality and Visit Umeå aim to facilitate shared experiences that can strengthen societal cohesion.
