Long-Term Agreement Secured: District Floorball Championships to be Held in Umeå 2027-2031

It is now officially confirmed that Umeå will be the host city for the District Floorball Championships in January from 2027 to 2031. The District Championships for 16-year-olds is an annual event in the Swedish Floorball Federation’s competition calendar, bringing together players, coaches, and audiences from across the country.

A Celebrated National Tournament

The District Championships is one of Swedish Floorball’s most appreciated events. This annual tournament gathers representative teams from the country’s districts in one location during four intense days. It’s a public festival where joy and community permeate the halls as coveted SM medals are at stake.

“It feels fantastic that we can now announce this amazing news. The District Championships is one of our crown jewels and an event that is enormously appreciated by audiences, coaches, and players annually,” says Stefan Jonasson, Commercial Director of the Swedish Floorball Association.

Umeå’s Proven Track Record

Umeå has previously hosted the District Championships on several occasions, most recently in 2024 when the tournament was decided before packed stands. The new agreement provides an opportunity to further develop both the tournament and its surrounding activities.

“We have been in Umeå before, and it has been very appreciated by everyone involved. By now signing a long-term agreement, we have the opportunity to develop what happens on the court as well as outside of it,” Stefan Jonasson continues.

Local Perspectives

Visit Umeå views the new long-term agreement very positively and what it can bring to the city, according to Henrik Vilhelmsson, Event Development Manager at Visit Umeå.

“It feels great to start a long-term collaboration where we can create a clear structure for our local associations and the business community in Umeå, especially during a period when the need for events is great. We hope that this structure will not only strengthen this event but also become a model that can benefit more events in the city,” says Henrik Vilhelmsson.

A Championship for Young Talents

The Västerbotten Floorball Association also looks forward to hosting the tournament again and welcoming some of the country’s biggest talents to Umeå.

“Personally, I have been involved in floorball for many years and have seen SM finals and World Championship finals. The District Championships for 16-year-olds is the best product that Swedish Floorball has. It gives many the chance to play matches they might never have experienced otherwise,” says Bobby Hjelte from the Västerbotten Floorball Association.
