Record Number of International Guests in Halland for 2024
In 2024, Halland experienced an unprecedented milestone with over 400,000 international guest nights, marking a significant breakthrough in tourism for the region.
International Tourism Surge
“It’s fantastic to see how Halland is increasingly becoming a first-choice destination for international visitors,” says Jimmy Sandberg, CEO of Visit Halland.
Key International Markets
While Halland has long been a favorite among Swedish travelers, international guests are now discovering the region’s charm. The largest international markets are Germany, Norway, and Denmark, as revealed by the annual guest night statistics from Statistics Sweden (SCB).
“We see enormous potential in international markets. We are still relatively unknown to foreign audiences, but we know that much of what they seek is exactly what Halland offers,” Jimmy Sandberg explains.
Strategic Tourism Development
Extending the Tourist Season
One of Visit Halland’s primary goals is to increase visitors by extending the tourist season and creating a more balanced visitor flow, contributing to a more sustainable tourism industry.
German Market Focus
Germany is particularly crucial for season extension. Approximately 27 million Germans are interested in visiting Sweden, and their travel habits are ideal for prolonging the tourist season in Halland.
Danish Visitor Growth
Denmark stands out with remarkable growth. Danish guest nights in Halland have more than doubled in less than 10 years – achieving a goal originally set for 2030, five years ahead of schedule.
“The rapid increase in Danish visits provides an excellent opportunity to intensify our efforts and strengthen awareness of Halland. We observe that the experiences Danish travelers seek – scenic areas, local culinary experiences, culture, spa, and coastal life – are precisely what Halland offers, just a two-hour drive from Copenhagen,” Sandberg concludes.
