Discover Nature in a New Way at the Hajka Hiking Festival in Umeå
From October 4-6, the Umeå region will come alive with the inaugural Hajka hiking festival. This exciting new event offers a unique way to explore the natural beauty of northern Sweden through a variety of guided hikes and outdoor activities.
A Festival for All Levels of Hikers
With over 30 activities organized by 20 different providers, Hajka has something for everyone – from curious beginners to experienced adventurers. Participants can create their own festival experience by choosing from activities like:
- A secret forest concert
- Singles hike
- “After Hajk” social events
- Craft and hiking combination tours
As Magda Andersson, organizer of the secret concert, explains: “We really like the concept of Hajka and it feels completely in line with our vision. This will be the third time we arrange a secret forest concert and this time the hiding place is something out of the ordinary. We will be in the Bjurholm area, that’s all I can reveal.”
Three Days of Outdoor Adventure
The festival kicks off Friday with relaxing nature activities. Saturday offers a full day of diverse hikes, from architecture walks to family-friendly outings, capped off with evening social events. Sunday features creative workshops at Slöjdarnas Hus in Vännäsby, including craft sessions, forest bingo, and the inauguration of a new hiking trail.
Johanna Palmlöf Brus, destination developer at Visit Umeå, says: “In Umeå and the surrounding area, there are fantastic hiking opportunities, everything from longer established trails to simpler and child-friendly hiking. Through Hajka, we want to encourage outdoor life and public health, as well as strengthen nature tourism in the region.”
Promoting Outdoor Recreation Through Collaboration
Hajka is a collaborative effort between tourism operators, local municipalities, associations, and Visit Umeå. The festival aims to promote outdoor recreation and nature tourism while showcasing the region’s extensive network of hiking trails and activities.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to develop high-quality, safe trails in the region during 2023-2024. Hajka seeks to create a sense of community and cooperation among both participants and organizers.
