Halmstad continues to grow as a vibrant tourism destination, with guest nights increasing by 4.7% during 2024. The trend of changing travel behavior continues, with holidays now spreading more evenly across the entire summer period.

The guest night statistics for 2024 demonstrate Halmstad’s strong position as a top visitor destination. Key highlights include:
- 828,410 total guest nights recorded
- 4.7% increase compared to 2023
- Higher growth rate than national (+0.7%) and regional (+0.4%) averages
International Visitor Growth
While the Swedish market remains the largest with over 730,000 guest nights, international visitors showed remarkable growth. Foreign guest nights increased by an impressive 19%, indicating Halmstad’s growing international appeal.
Key International Markets
Denmark and Germany emerged as the two primary international markets, reflecting targeted marketing efforts by Destination Halmstad and Visit Halland.
Accommodation Sector Performance
Hotels in Halmstad experienced a strong year, with guest nights increasing by over 7%. Camping accommodations saw slight growth but remain below pre-pandemic levels.
Seasonal Trends
The trend of spreading travel across a longer period continues. Summer months showed positive development with a 6% increase. Notably, late summer performed exceptionally well:
- August: Nearly 13% increase
- September: Record levels achieved
