Dreams Become Reality: Action Plan for “Dream of Borås 2.0” Launched
Borås is taking the next step towards a more vibrant and attractive city center with the launch of an action plan for “Dream of Borås 2.0”. The plan, presented to 75 engaged participants, outlines specific measures for five main corridors in Borås’ city center, focusing on design, function, events, safety, and new establishments, including more retail stores.
Key Features of the Action Plan
The action plan covers five key areas in the city center:
- Stora Torget (Main Square)
- Stora Brogatan (including Västerbro, Holmsgatan, and Posttorget)
- Lilla Brogatan (including Sandwalls plats and Södra Torget)
- Allégatan
- Hötorget (including northern Österlånggatan)
Anna Liljenby, City Life Coordinator at Borås TME, emphasizes the collaborative nature of the plan: “It’s a comprehensive list of actions linked to the different corridors. The parties in the city center must do this together. To get things done, we are clear about who has the main responsibility, but in principle, all measures need to be implemented in collaboration.”
Early Successes
Some measures have already been implemented in early 2024, such as a temporary ski slope and an Instagram-friendly heart on Stora Torget. These actions are based on Borås residents’ dreams of making the square a more lively place.
Linda Sjöstrand, City Leader of Borås City, notes: “We are glad that we have already implemented several short-term measures that have generated great interest among Borås residents. It’s important for us to work with both short- and long-term measures simultaneously.”
Background: The Dream of Borås Process
The “Dream of Borås” concept was created about ten years ago to gather ideas and efforts to make the city center more attractive. The current process, “Dream of Borås 2.0”, has involved:
- Workshops with 162 unique participants from various sectors
- A city walk to identify necessary measures to increase the city center’s attractiveness
- A digital survey that gathered input from over 2,200 Borås residents
- A micro-market survey of the establishment potential in Borås city center
The project is led by a steering group including Anna Liljenby, Linda Sjöstrand, and Sarah Norving, with participation from various local organizations and businesses.
