Skellefteå Unveils Innovative Climate Action Park: Where Art Meets Sustainability
Skellefteå Municipality has approved the development of Scharins Park, a groundbreaking Climate Action Park that will transform a historic industrial area into a dynamic hub of art, knowledge, and environmental innovation.
A Vision of Transformation
Located along the Skellefteå River, the former industrial site underwent extensive remediation between 2001 and 2018. Now, it’s poised to become a landmark destination that bridges historical industrial heritage with future sustainability.
Highlights of the Climate Action Park
- Part of Skellefteå Society Expo 2026 (SE26)
- Focus on climate adaptation and environmental solutions
- Expected to attract up to 75,000 visitors in 2026
“Skellefteå Climate Action Park is an excellent example of how we want to collaborate across boundaries to enable art, highlight critical climate and environmental issues, and simultaneously strengthen social values in our ongoing societal transformation,” says Expo Chief Helena Renström.

A key feature will be the “Wasteland” exhibition by renowned artist duo Bigert & Bergström. This installation will combine art, architecture, and climate technology to explore environmental challenges and potential solutions.
“We have been working on climate issues for over 30 years, and being able to contribute to the creation of Skellefteå Climate Action Park is fantastic. We hope ‘Wasteland’ will be an inspiration for many,” say Bigert & Bergström.
