Olympic Days Set to Energize Eskilstuna Ahead of Paris 2024
From May 30th to June 1st, Eskilstuna will host the Olympic Days event in its city park, offering a unique blend of sports experiences, inspirational meetings with Olympians, and a festival atmosphere. With over 30 participating associations, the event promises to be a celebration of sports and community spirit.
A Prelude to the Olympic Pre-Camp
The Olympic Days serve as the kickoff for the Olympic Pre-Camp organized by the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) in Eskilstuna this summer. Tommy Malm, City Manager of Eskilstuna Municipality, expressed pride in hosting the event:
“We are incredibly proud to welcome the Olympic Days and the Swedish Olympic Committee to Eskilstuna. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Eskilstuna’s incredible association life and inspire more children and young people to get active.”
Record Participation from Local Sports Associations
Eskilstuna’s strong sporting community is evident in the unprecedented interest from local clubs. Sports confirmed for participation include judo, table tennis, football, gymnastics, equestrian sports, radio-controlled car racing, and athletics.
Jessica Lindell Vikarby, Project Manager at SOK, noted the exceptional response:
“We have received an incredible response. Never before have we had so many associations showing interest in participating this early in the process. There are a few spots left, but we expect them to fill up shortly.”
Bringing the Olympic Spirit to Eskilstuna
The Olympic Days mark the beginning of the build-up to the Paris Olympics, offering participants a unique chance to experience the Olympic spirit at home. During the first two days, approximately 3,000 middle school students from Eskilstuna will be invited to try various sports.
Micke Lönngren, Event Manager at Destination Eskilstuna, shared his excitement:
“We’re aiming high and inviting a record number of school children on May 30-31. But our ambition is also to break records on Saturday when the general public is welcomed. It will be a real public festival. Additionally, the international food market is being held at Fristadstorget during the same period – the two events complement each other perfectly!”
