Let the Boules Festival Begin in Lund!
Lund is gearing up to host the Swedish Boules Championship, welcoming 1,700 participants for an exciting week of competition and festivities. The event promises to bring a vibrant atmosphere to the city, with opportunities for locals and visitors to experience the boules spirit.
Championship Venues and Schedule
The qualifications will take place in Stadsparken during the day, while the finals will be held at Mårtenstorget in the evenings. The boules week will kick off on Sunday, July 14th, with a special screening of the European Football Championship final on a large screen at the newly constructed temporary boules arena.
“That the Swedish Boules Federation has chosen to hold the Swedish Championship here shows that Lund is a fantastic place for public events. The starting shot has now been fired for Mårtenstorget as an event venue, and I look forward to more unique events that contribute to making Lund even more lively and inviting,” says Anders Almgren, Chairman of the Municipal Board in Lund.
A Diverse and Popular Event
Boules is a family-friendly sport, attracting participants of all ages. This year’s championship boasts competitors ranging from 10 to 93 years old, with the highest number of registrations since 2008.
“There are 1,700 registered now, and we expect a few more when late registration opens this weekend,” says Mattias Thorell from the Swedish Boules Federation.
Experiencing Lund Beyond the Championship
The event organizers hope that participants will take the opportunity to explore Lund and the surrounding Skåne region during their visit. To enhance the boules experience, the public is invited to try the sport at Botulfsplatsen, with free equipment available and instructors on hand from 2-4 PM each day starting Monday.
Collaborative Effort
The Swedish Boules Championship is organized by the Swedish Boules Federation in collaboration with Visit Lund, supported by the Heja Lund! initiative, Lund Municipality, and Visit Skåne.
