A Human ‘Hello’ from Östersund on World Hello Day

On November 21st, World Hello Day is celebrated worldwide. In Östersund, the day was marked by a series of activities, including lectures and an award ceremony for “The Year’s Greeter”.

    Community Building Initiative

During Thursday evening, Östersund residents gathered at Stortorget to collectively create Sweden’s – and potentially the world’s – largest human “HEJ”. This initiative aimed to strengthen community bonds and highlight Östersund as a place where welcoming, hospitality, and care are at the center.

    Collaborative Effort

“Hej Östersund” was a collaborative event between “Hej Främling” and Destination Östersund, focusing on:

    • Integration
    • Tourism development
    • Community development
    • Social sustainability

    About Destination Östersund

Destination Östersund is owned by local businesses and partners. Their mission is to coordinate and develop Östersund as a destination, strengthen connections between different actors, and develop the tourism industry.
