Dalarna’s Winter Season Looks Promising: Strong Bookings and Exciting Prospects
The winter season in Dalarna is shaping up to be exceptional, with early indications suggesting robust booking levels across various accommodations and ski resorts. Following last year’s record-long winter season, which saw substantial natural snowfall as early as October, this year’s outlook is even more promising.
Strong Tourism Trends
Chatarina Eriksson, CEO of Visit Dalarna, states confidently: “That Dalarna stands strong in tough competition is a testament to our hard work across multiple fronts, entirely in line with the trend reports we’ve seen. Dalarna is at the top in Sweden as a winter destination.”
Diverse Winter Attractions
Swedish travelers are particularly drawn to Dalarna for winter vacations, appreciating its snow-reliable environment and diverse offerings. Foreign visitors, especially Danish tourists, continue to flock to the region for skiing experiences.
“Occupancy for the winter looks good, and several peak season weeks are fully booked. This year, we’ll also stay open three weeks longer than the previous season due to Easter’s later date, providing five weeks between sports and Easter holidays with often sunny, beautiful days,” says Fredrik Nilsson, CEO of Fjätervålen AB.
Elite Training Opportunities
Ski resorts actively preserving snow are ensuring early season openings, which attracts elite athletes. This season, the Norwegian national biathlon team has already utilized the early, quality-assured training opportunities at Idre Fjäll.
“In recent years, we’ve definitely seen an increase in elite athletes and teams choosing to train here. We’re thrilled to be a place where national teams and young talents can develop,” explains Tommy Halvarsson, Marketing and PR Manager at Idre Fjäll.
Booking Trends
Among surveyed businesses, booking increases range between 10-20% compared to the same period last year. Many accommodation facilities report that the most expensive rooms are being booked first, while self-catering cottages remain popular.
“The trend of skiing continues. It remains positively attractive for foreign visitors to visit Sweden, especially Danes who get great value for their money. Meanwhile, traveling abroad remains expensive given the Swedish krona’s current value,” says Chatarina Eriksson.
Looking Ahead
With its stunning landscapes, reliable snow conditions, and diverse winter activities, Dalarna continues to cement its position as a premier winter destination in Sweden.
