Region Halland and the Destinations in Halland have selected Strömma Farmlodge as Halland’s representative for the Grand Tourism Prize 2023. This charming farm lodge, located in Tvååker outside Varberg, exemplifies how creativity, entrepreneurship, and local engagement can create an attractive tourist destination in rural Halland.
A Rural Success Story
Since 2013, Marina Evertsson has been running Strömma Farmlodge, transforming it from a simple B&B into a multifaceted attraction. The farm now boasts a restaurant, café, interior design and upcycling shop, farm shop, and hosts various events including concerts and a popular Farmers Market.
“Strömma Farmlodge is an exemplary demonstration that, with great local commitment, creativity and entrepreneurship, it is possible to create attractive tourism businesses in the Halland countryside,” says Helene Andersson, chair of the Regional Board’s Growth Committee in Region Halland.
Boosting Local Economy and Youth Employment
The farm lodge plays a significant role in the local economy, particularly in providing opportunities for young people. Each year, it engages about 70 youths in its operations, highlighting the crucial role tourism businesses play in creating entry-level jobs for young people entering the workforce.
Enhancing Halland’s Profile
Strömma Farmlodge contributes to strengthening Halland’s profile as an attractive food destination, particularly through its Farmers Market events which celebrate local food producers. It also enhances Varberg’s image as a complete destination, offering both a fantastic coast and an attractive inland with high-quality experiences.
Nomination Motivation
“With innovation, courage and a great passion for a living countryside, Strömma Farmlodge and Marina Evertsson have, with the help of recycling, local networks and a rich product flora, transformed a farm into an attractive destination that attracts people far beyond Sweden’s borders. Strömma Farmlodge in Tvååker has become a strong symbol that it is possible to create sustainable growth through high-quality and sustainable experiences in the Halland countryside.”
