New Competition Year and Partner for Swedish Outdoor Cooking Championship
The Swedish Outdoor Cooking Championship (SM i utomhusmatlagning) has kicked off a new competition year with an exciting development – a new partnership with Swedish company Lursta. The first qualifying round took place on June 7th at Åkulla Outdoor Resort, where team Aska emerged victorious.
Upcoming qualifying rounds will be held at:
- Kinnekulle on September 8th
- Tåkern on September 28th
- Smålands trädgård on September 29th
Winners will qualify for the final to be held at Billingen Skövde in May 2025.
Growing Interest in Outdoor Cooking
Magnus Sundmark, event manager at organizer Next Skövde, commented on the championship’s growing popularity:
“Intresset för utomhusmatlagning och uteliv är fortsatt starkt och det är roligt att SM i utomhusmatlagning fått fäste runt om i landet med deltävlingar på flera orter. Vi har även fler förfrågningar än tidigare från fler som visar intresse för att arrangera deltävlingar, vilket så klart är glädjande.”
New Partnership with Lursta
The championship’s new partner, Lursta, specializes in high-quality cast iron products focusing on sustainability and traditional craftsmanship. Their products, rooted in the history of Lyrestad Foundry, combine modern design with classic craftsmanship.
Sundmark expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:
“Det är väldigt roligt och inspirerande att Lursta klivit in som partner med sina kvalitétsprodukter. Det kommer att lyfta tävlingarna ytterligare en nivå och deras produkter skapar en ny, spännande utmaning och fler möjligheter för de deltagande lagen.”
Competition Goals and Format
The Swedish Outdoor Cooking Championship aims to:
- Increase interest in outdoor cooking and outdoor life
- Promote local raw material and food producers
- Strengthen Billingen Skövde and qualifying round locations as outdoor cooking destinations
Teams of 2-3 participants have 2.5 hours to prepare a three-course menu over an open fire using a Lyrestad griddle and Trangia stove. Judges evaluate taste, presentation, composition, mise en place, hygiene, skill, economy/waste, and use of nature’s pantry.
The championship has been running since 2016, organized by Next Skövde, with qualifying rounds held across Sweden and the final always taking place at Billingen Skövde.
