Vedens Lustgård and “Skaraborg Event Funnel” Win Sustainability Awards in Skaraborg
Two winners of the Annual Sustainability Step in Skaraborg were announced on June 4, 2024. Vedens Lustgård won in the tourism business category, while the Event Funnel method developed by Lidköping and Skövde municipalities through their companies Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle and Next Skövde won for municipal initiatives.
The Annual Sustainability Step is a yearly award in the West Sweden tourism industry, established by the West Sweden Tourist Board. It recognizes outstanding efforts in sustainable tourism by both businesses and municipal initiatives.
Vedens Lustgård: Celebrating Local Producers
Filip Larsson and Sara Runsten of Vedens Lustgård expressed their excitement about winning:
“When we started, we wanted to take over the world and now we have realized that it is our place, here at Vedens lustgård, which is the center of the world and based on that we develop our business and therefore it feels incredibly fun to get this award right now”
The jury praised Vedens Lustgård for its dedication to sustainability and the local community. They highlighted the business’s passion for spreading food joy, celebrating local farmers and producers, and working with sustainable ingredients while reducing food waste.
The Skaraborg Event Funnel: A Collaborative Success
Andrea Johansson, event manager at Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle, emphasized the collaborative nature of the Event Funnel project:
“This is something we have done together. We started in 2019 with Melodifestivalen in Lidköping as a pilot to tackle the challenge of how we can evaluate events objectively and have worked together with colleagues in Skaraborg and the University of Gothenburg to develop this evaluation model.”
The Event Funnel was recognized for its innovative approach to sustainably assessing and developing events. The model enables strategic decisions to attract future events that bring visitors during off-peak times, contributing to a robust tourism industry benefiting both residents and visitors.
Next Steps
The winners from Skaraborg will now compete to be named the Annual Sustainability Step for all of West Sweden. A main jury will evaluate the entries, with the winner to be announced in November at the Great Tourist Council Day in Gothenburg.
