Exciting Events Coming to Lidköping’s New City Square
From May 8-17, 2024, Nya Stadens Torg (New City Square) in central Lidköping will transform into a vibrant event space, offering a variety of activities for locals and visitors alike.
District Championship Boules Tournament
Boules courts will be set up in the square, hosting the District Championship from May 9-12. Spectators can watch Västergötland’s best players compete and even try their hand at the game.
“It’s the first time our district championship has moved to the center of a city, and it will be fantastic for both players and visitors,” says Oliver Thorell, chairman of the Wästgöta Dahls Boule Association.
Spring Market
On May 10, the traditional Spring Market will coincide with the boules tournament. The city center will be filled with activities for the whole family, including:
- Additional market stalls
- Bouncy castles
- Face painting
- Opportunities to meet popular characters
Agricultural Fair in the City Center
From May 15-16, Western Sweden’s most central agricultural fair will take over the city. Visitors can expect:
- Agricultural machinery displays
- Exhibitors from the farming industry
- Interesting seminars
- Performances
“We’ve wanted to do something in agriculture for several years, and now we’ve found a perfect match with Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle. Lidköping as a city and its beautiful New City Square, combined with a Skaraborg that exudes pride in its countryside, we really found the right fit. Even our Minister of Rural Affairs was attracted here, and we are very proud to have Peter Kullgren as the opening speaker on the first day. We are excited, charged, and a little nervous ahead of our premiere of Agriculture in the Center,” says Martin Claesson, fair manager.
Traffic and Parking Information
Due to these events, some streets and parking areas around Nya Stadens Torg will be closed. Visitors are encouraged to cycle, walk, or use public transport when possible.
“We are super excited and actively working to contribute to an eventful center with a varied range of offerings for our municipal residents and visitors. We hope that many people will come and take part in all the fun things that are happening and have understanding that accessibility in the city center is affected a bit, but that it is outweighed by everything that is happening. We want to encourage everyone who has the opportunity to cycle, walk or use public transport to the center during these days,” says Andrea Johansson, event manager at Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle AB.
