Long-Term Agreement for International Youth Football in Borås
The Swedish Football Association and the City of Borås have signed a 3-year agreement to host youth international matches at Borås Arena. These matches are often played in tournament format, with participating nations staying, training, and playing matches in Borås for about 10 days.
Jörgen Larsson, Event Manager at the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), emphasizes the advantages of having Borås as the host city for these events:
“We have had successful boys’ and girls’ tournaments in Borås for a few years now and have seen the benefits of the city as a host. Borås offers modern facilities for matches and training, comfortable accommodation, smooth logistics, and proximity to an international airport. This, combined with an established organization, is hard to beat. From SvFF, we are happy to continue the collaboration with Borås and together develop football with future international matches in the city.”
The Swedish Football Association, the City of Borås, and Borås TME enter into this collaboration with the ambition to develop the events and make them even more attractive and sustainable during the contract period.
Henrik Björnander, project manager at Borås TME, expresses enthusiasm about the opportunity:
“We are incredibly happy and proud of this opportunity, which is the fruit of several years of successful events. The agreement is entirely in line with how we want to work with events in the city long-term and a fine receipt for Borås as a host city. Being able to offer high-class football with young talents from different countries is inspiring and cements Borås as a destination for football. The last time we organized a four-nation tournament, players from top leagues such as Serie A, Ligue 1, and Allsvenskan participated, which shows the high level of the players.”
A long-term agreement also aims to elevate and strengthen football in Borås. It creates a context where local associations can be inspired by future stars and be involved in the events. For Borås, this is also an opportunity to market the city internationally and benefit from the international matches for the local economy.
Thomas Walfridsson, CEO of Borås TME, concludes:
“I am incredibly proud of the long-term agreement between the Swedish Football Association, the City of Borås, Borås TME, and the Leisure and Public Health Administration. This collaboration opens up fantastic opportunities for our city, both in terms of elevating football locally and marketing Borås internationally. By welcoming youth international matches to Borås Arena, we not only strengthen our position as a destination for sports and football but also create a platform where local associations can be inspired and engaged. I look forward to working with our partners to develop and realize the vision of Borås as a leading host city for international youth football.”
