Skellefteå Municipality Wins Silver in Publishing Award
On Tuesday, Skellefteå Municipality received a prestigious accolade at the annual Publishing Award ceremony held at Berns in Stockholm. The municipality, along with Visit Skellefteå and communications agency Henson, secured the silver prize in the “Magazine for Geographical Areas” category for their magazine S/Å.
S/Å Magazine is a high-quality publication that showcases the vibrant culture, innovation, and culinary scene of Skellefteå. Distributed to select groups such as potential returnees and ambassadors, as well as freely available at various locations in Skellefteå, the magazine offers a mix of articles and features highlighting the city’s unique qualities.
“It has been an inspiring and enjoyable journey to create S/Å Magazine together with Henson and Visit Skellefteå. A journey that I think is visible in the product. We are very proud of our beautiful magazine where images, texts, and design were created in Skellefteå, and we are grateful that others feel the same way we do, that it is a high-class magazine,”
says David Ekström, communicator at Skellefteå Municipality and publisher of S/Å.
“It feels luxurious to receive an award for highlighting a place we are proud to be a part of. Skellefteå Municipality and Visit Skellefteå had a clear vision of what they wanted to create, and with a brave and curious client, we have been able to push the boundaries together. It produces a really good result,”
adds Emma Zimdahl, project manager at Henson.

S/Å Magazine is published twice a year and is also available in digital form on skelleftea.se/sa. The creation of the magazine involved a collaborative effort between Henson’s writers and designers, local photographers, and Skellefteå Municipality.
The Publishing Award
The Publishing Award is an annual jury-assessed competition for newspapers, magazines, advertisements, websites, books, and other printed materials. It has been awarded since 1990 and is Sweden’s most comprehensive competition in communication. In 2024, 228 finalists competed for prizes in about 40 different categories.
This recognition highlights Skellefteå’s commitment to showcasing its unique attributes and fostering a strong sense of place identity through high-quality content creation.
