Skellefteå Welcomes 5,200 New Residents with Grand Celebration
Skellefteå, a vibrant city in northern Sweden, is set to host a spectacular event for its newest residents. The annual “Inflyttardagen” (Newcomers’ Day) will be held on June 29th, 2024, in collaboration with the Summertime Music & Life festival at Norrvalla.
A Growing Tradition
Each year, thousands of people move to Skellefteå, and the city organizes this special day to help newcomers familiarize themselves with their new home. Last year’s event at Nordanå attracted 1,600 participants, but this year’s celebration promises to be even bigger and better.
New Location, Expanded Offerings
The 2024 Inflyttardagen will take place at Norrvalla, offering more space and activities for attendees. Sofia Sturesson, project manager for Welcome House Skellefteå, explains:
“Inflyttardagen is one of our most appreciated and the most important and largest event for newcomers. It feels very exciting that we, together with Summertime, can offer them this. This event will be perfect for the whole family. Norrvalla becomes a perfect place to carry out the event with its proximity to the center and the large areas, because we expect that there will be very many coming.”
Collaboration for Community Building
The partnership with Summertime Music & Life festival adds a new dimension to the event. Thomas Lindgren and Gunnar Karlsson from Skellefteå Summertime share their enthusiasm:
“It feels fantastically fun to together with Skellefteå Municipality and Welcome House, a lot of associations and organizations make the event Inflyttardagen together. In order for us to manage the social transformation that we are in now, the prerequisite is that we cooperate.”
