Skellefteå Ranks Highest for Career Opportunities Among Students
A successful event for matching skills between businesses and students was held at Campus Skellefteå, aligning with Skellefteå’s top ranking for career opportunities in the “Sweden’s Best Student Cities” survey.
The well-attended lunch event focused on connecting businesses and students at Campus Skellefteå, as part of an expanded collaboration between the Business Office of Skellefteå Municipality and SKARV – the student organization aimed at bridging contacts between students and the business community.
“With the mission to guide students to working life, expand their personal network, and help them get in touch with potential employers, we are very satisfied with the developed collaboration between Skellefteå Municipality’s Business Office and SKARV,” says Eh Soe, SKARV and student at LTU in Skellefteå.
The event’s theme was “Mingling and Networking” between Campus Skellefteå students and local businesses, aiming to foster connections and future collaborations such as jobs and thesis projects, bridging the gap between academia and industry.
These skill-matching initiatives in Skellefteå have been very positively received by both businesses and students. To further strengthen collaboration, Skellefteå is planning an upcoming event focused on the IT sector on April 17th, with an expanded program.
“Most important for us at the Business Office is that we have started and found forms for collaboration where students and businesses have the opportunity to meet and create contact during the study period to find collaborations where they can utilize the students’ skills based on the companies’ needs and thereby increase the chances that students choose to stay in Skellefteå after graduation,” says Desireé Öden, business developer, Skellefteå Municipality.
The business community was represented by companies like Northvolt, ABB, Boliden, Datapolarna, AFRY, Arctic Game, and Skellefteå Municipality/Welcome House. The 69 students in attendance came from various institutions and programs, including LTU, Futuregames, Visual Magic, T2, and TUC, with backgrounds in programming, game development, mechanical engineering, VFX artistry, computer graphics, computer networks, and UX design.
The event’s success bodes well for the next event planned for April 17th, which will focus on IT with an expanded program and further collaboration with Digital Alliance and LTU in Luleå.
Campus Skellefteå’s autumn offerings of educational programs and the number of education providers will be larger than ever, as the work with Skellefteå Universities Alliance has yielded results with expanded collaborations and investments.
