Unique Report Reveals Recruitment Needs in Northern Sweden – Municipality by Municipality and Industry by Industry
A groundbreaking report on recruitment and competence needs in northern Sweden has been released, providing an unprecedented level of detail on workforce demands across the region. The study, which covers 30 municipalities and 548 companies, offers valuable insights into both public and private sector requirements for the years 2024-2026.
Key Findings
- A recruitment need for over 45,000 positions, conservatively estimated
- Competence development requirements for 39,000 existing employees
- Detailed breakdowns by industry and job type
- Insights into small and medium-sized enterprises’ needs
Ida Lindh, FoU strategist at Campus Skellefteå, commented on the report’s significance:
“The report confirms the picture that all of northern Sweden faces fantastic opportunities, but without the right skills, we risk not being able to take full advantage of these. The availability and proximity to higher education have never been more important in our region. To clarify this and better match education with needs, we have been working together in recent years to develop forms for skills mapping. It feels great to be able to present this report today. With it as a basis, we can now continue to develop forms to meet these future needs in municipalities and regions, for education providers and working life, in collaboration.”
Collaboration and Future Impact
The report is a collaborative effort between Akademi Norr, Lapplands kommunalförbund, Skellefteå Municipality, and Byggföretagen. It aims to better align educational offerings with regional needs, particularly at institutions like Campus Skellefteå.
This comprehensive study will be crucial for policymakers, educators, and businesses in planning for the region’s future workforce needs and economic development.
