National Photo Exhibition for Equal Rights Comes to Skellefteå
A powerful photo exhibition celebrating human diversity and equality is coming to Skellefteå this October. The exhibition, tied to the upcoming film “It Could Have Been Us”, features portraits of nine local personalities who have historically been marginalized or hidden away in institutions.
On October 7th, Visit Skellefteå, along with Skellefteå Municipality, Sara Cultural Center, Nöjesfabriken, and ICA Kvantum, will host a special event at Sara Square to highlight the exhibition and distribute free tickets to the film.
Showcasing Diversity and Inclusion
Photographer Karl Nordlund has captured portraits of nine local personalities across twelve Swedish cities for this national outdoor exhibition. The goal is to demonstrate that our society belongs to everyone, regardless of background or ability.
Lorents Burman, Municipal Commissioner of Skellefteå, stated: “In Skellefteå Municipality, we are proud to highlight and make visible all people, regardless of background or affiliation. Everyone should have the same right and opportunity to take their place in our society, and this photo exhibition manifests just that – that we are all part of the whole and have equal value.”
A Journey Through History
The film “It Could Have Been Us” takes viewers on a journey through Swedish history, from the inauguration of the Institute for Racial Biology in 1922 to the horrific experiments at Vipeholm Institution. While addressing dark chapters of the past, the film aims to convey hope and optimism for the future.
Pär Johansson of Glada Hudik Theater said: “Together we can keep the collective memory alive so that history does not repeat itself.”
