World’s Sharpest Minds to Compete in Lund
The city of Lund, Sweden, will host the 2024 World Memory Championships from November 22-24. This prestigious event will bring together the world’s top mental athletes to compete in various memory disciplines.
“Lund and knowledge go hand in hand, making it the perfect place for the competition,” says Idriz Zogaj, chairman of the Swedish Memory Federation, which is organizing the World Championships in Lund.
Sweden has a strong history of success in memory competitions. Jonas von Essen has won the world championship twice, and the Swedish national team has also claimed gold.
“Considering how successful Swedish memory masters have been so far, this autumn’s World Championships in Lund have all the prerequisites to become a really exciting battle. It feels really great that Lund gets another international competition to the city,” says Samuel Jonsson, chairman of Visit Lund, the city’s destination company.
The World Memory Championships will feature various disciplines that challenge participants in different aspects of memory, including speed, endurance, and precision. The event is organized by the Swedish Memory Federation with support from Visit Lund, Lund Municipality, and Visit Skåne.
In conjunction with the competition, a series of memory-themed activities will be organized for schools, organizations, and the public throughout Skåne. One of the goals is to inspire more children and young people to take an interest in science and the art of memory.
“It’s fantastic that Lund and Skåne have been awarded this prestigious championship. The event positions the region as a strong and innovative research region. At the same time, we enable children and young people from all over Skåne to open their eyes to science and research,” says Max Granström, CEO of Visit Skåne, the region’s destination company.
“The event will be a fascinating display of mental strength, with the highest level of the world elite making the art of memory appear as a superpower,” says Martin Nilsson, himself a multiple memory champion and local Lund representative for the Swedish Memory Federation.
The reigning world memory champion is Tenuun Tamir from Mongolia. In November, we will see who challenges her for the title when the World Championships are decided in Lund.
Information about the registration process will be published regularly on the Swedish Memory Federation’s website.
