City Council Chairman to Marry at Least Ten Couples at Castle – As Gustav Vasa!

On Sweden’s National Day, June 6th, Örebro Castle will be the scene of a unique and historic event. Not only does it mark exactly 500 years since Gustav Vasa was elected as King of Sweden, but it will also host a wedding extravaganza with a royal twist.

At least ten couples will be married by none other than “King Gustav” himself! Behind the iconic Vasa beard is none other than John Johansson (S), the Chairman of the City Council in Örebro.

    A Royal Wedding Experience

The weddings will take place in the beautiful Engelbrekt Room in the castle’s southeast tower. This room, once a popular wedding venue, has been repurposed for years but will now return to its romantic roots.

Jonna Schwertner from Örebrokompaniet, responsible for the wedding arrangements, states: We at Örebro Castle recently hired a new Gustav Vasa. However, he does not have the formal qualifications to marry couples. We are therefore more than happy that John can step in and save the day.

The officiator himself, John Johansson, is equally enthusiastic: This is a dream that’s finally coming true, he comments on his unusual assignment.

    More Than Just a Ceremony

Couples will also have the opportunity to take photographs in the castle premises. They will receive free entry to the exhibition “Gustav Vasa Speaks from the Beard – An Exhibition About Power”, which opens on the same day.

The exhibition runs until September 17th, so the newlyweds have plenty of time, says Jonna.
