Örebro Castle Opens Its Doors to Summer’s Grand Exhibition: Aquanauts
This summer, Örebro Castle is hosting a unique and thought-provoking exhibition called Aquanauts. Combining art, science, history, source criticism, and imagination, the exhibition offers a seamless blend of perspectives while addressing ongoing debates about human existence and behavior.
Artist Pompe Hedengren, the creator and artistic director, has crafted an experience that resonates with visitors of all backgrounds. He expresses his excitement about presenting Aquanauts in the magnificent setting of Örebro Castle:
“I am extremely happy to present Aquanauts in the fantastic environment that Örebro Castle offers. On top of all other attributes, it becomes so incredibly beautiful.”
An Unexpected Discovery
The exhibition tells the story of two researchers, Inga-Lisa Blomgren and Beata Gardelius, who embark on an expedition to the Siljan Ring in Dalarna during the summer of 1897. Their initial goal was to investigate the area where a meteorite had struck hundreds of millions of years ago. However, the expedition takes an unexpected turn.
Visitors can explore the researchers’ extensive materials, including photographs, illustrations, diary entries, scent trails, and fossils. These clues lead to the discovery of a previously unknown species: Homo Aquatis.
Masterful Artwork and Magnificent Scenography
The exhibition features intricate representations of the creatures known as aquanauts. Each is a work of art in itself, crafted from shells, oysters, horns, reeds, and branches. The spatial scenography is equally impressive, meticulously designed to transport visitors over a hundred years back in time to the Siljan Ring and the parallel universe discovered by the researchers.
Aquanauts is a collaborative effort by artist Pompe Hedengren, photographer Sara Mac Key, and scenographer Erik Gullberg.
