Kalmar to Host Agility World Championship 2025
Kalmar, Sweden is set to welcome the world’s top agility competitors as it prepares to host the Agility World Championship from September 17-21, 2025. This prestigious event will take place at the Hatstore Arena, marking the second time Sweden has hosted the championship.
A Tradition of Dog Events
Kalmar has a long history of organizing major dog events, including Hundfesten, Guldagility, and Agility-SM. The 2025 World Championship will be the city’s biggest canine competition yet, attracting the global elite of the sport.

- Around 700 dog-handler teams from 55 countries
- Approximately 2,000 spectators at the arena
- Thousands more watching live streams worldwide

Boost for Kalmar
Hosting the World Championship is a significant achievement for Kalmar. Frida Petersson, Project Manager for Sports Events at Destination Kalmar, stated: Securing the World Championship means a lot for Kalmar and our commitment to dog events. We have already begun work on profiling ourselves among those active in Swedish dog sports, and now even more dog owners around the world will hopefully become aware of Kalmar.
Becoming Dog-Friendly
Destination Kalmar is participating in a two-year research project on dog tourism at Lund University to enhance the city’s appeal to dog owners. Sylvia Nylin, CEO of Destination Kalmar, explained: Kalmar is already a dog-friendly city today, but we want to take another step and have the long-term ambition to become the most dog-friendly city in the Nordic region.

Agility is a growing sport with nearly 5,000 practitioners across Sweden. The World Championship features both individual and team competitions, with winners determined by the best combined results from an agility course and a jumping course. Speed and accuracy are key, as competitors aim for a faultless run in the shortest time.
