June Newsletter: Öland Gears Up for an Exciting Summer Season

As we approach the busiest time of the year, Öland & Co would like to thank all the partners and businesses that make our island such a fantastic destination. Whether you operate year-round or seasonally, your contributions are invaluable in attracting visitors to experience all that Öland has to offer.

Preparing for Summer 2024

According to research by Visit Sweden, travelers are increasingly seeking destinations that are:

• Easily accessible
• Places they’ve visited before
• Rich in natural beauty
• Offering cultural and historical attractions

There’s also growing interest in UNESCO World Heritage sites. With its unique blend of nature, culture and accessibility, Öland is perfectly positioned to meet these traveler preferences.

New Initiatives for Summer

• Digital hospitality training available for all partners
• Summer Tour bringing information and activities to visitors across the island
• New “What’s Happening on Öland?” posters with QR codes linking to oland.se

Visitor Services Updates

Our visitor centers have expanded staff for the season. Buses with international tourists are arriving daily at Träffpunkten. The tourist office in Färjestaden remains open even on days when the Summer Tour is active.

Notable Visitors

Eleven-time arm wrestling world champion Heidi Andersson and her husband, seven-time biathlon World Cup winner Björn Ferry, will be visiting Öland with their family this summer, exploring the island by bicycle.

Changes to Nature Reserve Facilities

Due to budget cuts, some nature reserves on Öland have reduced services like closed toilets or removed waste collection. Affected areas include Eckelsudde, Högenäs orde, Knisa mosse, Horns kungsgård, and Blå jungfrun National Park. Visitors should check for updates before their trip.

Summer Content Production

Our team will be out capturing photos and videos of various summer activities to update our media bank, including the Victoria Days celebrations, events on Konsertön, camping life, accessible hiking trails, family activities, and beach scenes.
