Öland’s Summer 2024: What to Expect
As we approach the busiest season on Öland, Sweden’s second-largest island, we want to thank all those who make this destination so special. From year-round attractions to seasonal offerings, Öland continues to captivate visitors with its unique charm.
Trends in Swedish Tourism
According to a recent survey by Visit Sweden, Swedish travelers are increasingly interested in:
- Revisiting familiar places
- Easily accessible destinations
- Beautiful nature
- Cultural and historical sites
- UNESCO World Heritage experiences
Öland, with its diverse attractions and UNESCO World Heritage site, is perfectly positioned to meet these desires.
New Initiatives for Summer 2024
Summer Tour
This year, we’re introducing a Summer Tour where our team will be present among visitors and local businesses a few days each week. We’ll be offering:
- Tips on hidden gems around the island
- VR glasses for year-round Öland experiences
- Fun games and prizes for those who complete our new visitor survey
QR Code Posters
Our “What’s happening on Öland?” posters with QR codes linking to oland.se have been hugely popular. These posters help visitors access up-to-date information about events and attractions.
Celebrity Visitors
Eleven-time world champion arm wrestler Heidi Andersson and her husband, seven-time biathlon World Cup winner Björn Ferry, will be visiting Öland this summer. The family, known for their sustainability efforts, will be exploring the island by bicycle.
Changes in Nature Reserves
Due to budget cuts, some nature reserves on Öland have reduced facilities. Visitors should be aware of potential closures of toilets and waste collection services in certain areas.
Summer Marketing Production
Our team will be out capturing photos and videos of various activities throughout the summer, including the Victoria Days, events on Konsertön, camping life, accessible hiking trails, family-oriented activities, and sun and beach moments.
We wish everyone a wonderful summer on Öland, the island of sun and winds!
