Öland: A Year-Round Destination
Öland, the island of sun and wind, offers stunning experiences throughout the year. While summer remains popular, autumn brings its own charm with golden colors, cozy cafés, and spa visits. The tourism board’s vision “All of Öland – all year” aims to showcase the island’s diverse attractions across seasons.
Summer 2024 Tourism Success
Öland saw impressive visitor numbers from June to August 2024:
- 1,256,354 commercial guest nights booked
- 2.4% increase compared to previous year
- 13.5% increase in international visitors
While 91% of visitors came during summer, there’s huge potential to grow tourism in other seasons.
New Illustrated Öland Map
A playful new illustrated map of Öland is now available as a high-quality poster. It captures iconic windmills, sunny beaches, cultural sights and historic places through fun illustrations.
Autumn Break Activities
The autumn school break offers exciting activities for all ages. Major attractions like Borgholm Castle, Eketorp Fort, and Ottenby Nature Reserve will be open. The “Light on Culture” festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with hundreds of colorful cultural events across Öland and Kalmar from October 25th.
Promoting Year-Round Tourism
To increase off-season visitors, businesses are encouraged to update their information on oland.se and promote autumn, winter and spring offerings. The tourism board is especially interested in holiday-themed events and packages.
Cycling-friendly accommodations are being highlighted to cater to active visitors exploring the island by bike.
Partnership Opportunities
Local businesses can join the “Partnership Öland” program to support tourism development and gain marketing benefits. This enables enhanced promotion of Öland regionally and nationally.
