Scouts’ Democratic Jamboree Sets Record in Jönköping
2024 is proving to be a strong year for meetings in Jönköping. From November 15-17, Scouts will host their Democratic Jamboree at Jönköping Concert & Congress, with 1,300 scouts attending what is considered one of Sweden’s largest democratic events. Notably, this gathering breaks previous attendance records.
A Strategic Destination for National Meetings
Destination Jönköping has successfully attracted nearly 20,000 participants from around the world to various meetings and congresses this year, with the Scouts’ Democratic Jamboree being a highlight.
“It’s delightful that the Scouts chose Jönköping for their Democratic Jamboree, especially exciting that they’re breaking participation records. Jönköping has a strong position as a meeting city in Sweden, and we’re experiencing significant interest in hosting larger meetings and congresses here,” says Malin Asking, Business Developer for Meetings at Destination Jönköping.
About the Democratic Jamboree
This biennial event brings together scouts from across Sweden, combining the organization’s official assembly with a social gathering. It’s an opportunity for members to:
- Make decisions about the organization’s future operations
- Network with scouts from different regions
- Participate in workshops and seminars
- Explore democratic processes
“Jönköping is strategically located considering our membership distribution. We’ve also received wonderful support from Destination Jönköping, Elmia, and local Jönköping scouts,” explains Sassa Orebring, Project Manager for the Democratic Jamboree.
Economic and Social Impact
Hosting such events creates numerous positive effects, including:
- Increased collaboration
- Network building
- Knowledge exchange
- Enhanced city branding
“The tourism sector benefits from increased hotel stays and greater economic impact. Meeting participants also contribute additional expertise and knowledge that benefits the entire city,” adds Malin Asking.
