Youth European Mountain Bike Championship Attracts Visitors from Across Europe to Jönköping

The Youth European Mountain Bike Championship, held from August 6-10, 2024, at IKHP’s facility on Huskvarnaberget, drew numerous European visitors to Jönköping. A visitor survey conducted during the event revealed that 57% of attendees came from nearly 20 different European countries, with most international visitors hailing from Germany, Norway, Belgium, and Austria.

Daniel Tidstrand, event developer at Destination Jönköping, stated, “It’s positive to see that the Youth European Mountain Bike Championship attracts so many different nationalities to our municipality. It’s especially gratifying that many of the visitors are first-timers experiencing our city.”

    Extended Stays and High Satisfaction

Over half of the visitors spent seven nights or more in Jönköping during their stay, with 78% attending the event for all five days. The event received high praise from attendees, with 82% saying they would recommend it to friends or colleagues.

    Visitor testimonials included:

    “Best organized UEC in Europe!”

“It’s perfect, we look forward to coming back here next year.”

“The best mountain bike event we have visited.”

“Road signs, advertising and information to the hotels about the event – it is fantastically organized.”

    Economic Impact and Future Events

The event generated significant tourism revenue, with Tidstrand noting, “Looking at the tourism economic turnover, it’s around 9.3 million SEK in connection with the event.”

The Youth European Mountain Bike Championship will return to Jönköping in the summer of 2025, this time at the Hallbystugan arena. Tidstrand expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “Now we look forward to welcoming both new and returning visitors to Jönköping for next year’s edition of the Youth European Mountain Bike Championship, which will take place in Hallby.”
