World Dog Sledding Championships 2025 to Take Over Östersund
From February 7-9, Östersund will transform into the global epicenter of dog sledding as the world’s best dog handlers and their canine athletes converge on Östersund’s ski stadium.
A Spectacular International Event
During three exciting days, over 1,000 four-legged athletes and handlers from more than 20 countries will compete in various disciplines including sprint, mid-distance, pulka, and sledge events.
“Being able to welcome so many fantastic teams from around the world to Östersund is an honor. We are ready to deliver a world championship that focuses on both the sport and the dogs’ well-being,” says Niklas Andersson, competition director for the Dog Sledding World Championships 2025.
More Than Just a Competition
The event offers more than high-stakes racing. Visitors can expect:
- A public area with child-friendly activities
- Local specialty food market
- Interactive experiences to learn about dog sledding
- Opportunities to meet dogs and handlers
Commitment to Animal Welfare
With over 1,000 dogs participating, organizers are committed to guaranteeing the highest animal welfare standards. Veterinarians from Europe and the USA will be on-site to ensure each dog receives the care and attention required to perform at top levels.
“We are delighted to welcome WSA back to Östersund. The 2022 World Championships were held under pandemic restrictions, so we’re excited to now truly showcase Östersund. This event strengthens Östersund’s position as an international host city, benefits tourism, and gives local residents a chance to experience exciting competitions,” says Jessica Thylin, Event Manager at Destination Östersund.
