Surfbukten in Östersund Set for Another Exciting Summer

Destination Östersund has received the green light to operate Surfbukten for the summer of 2024. This marks the third year that the activity park will be managed by the business-owned Destination Östersund on behalf of Östersund Municipality.

On April 23, 2024, the Development Committee of Östersund Municipality decided to allocate 500,000 SEK for the operation of Surfbukten. This budget will cover investments in the new café building, summer events, maintenance, and funding for supervisors and summer staff.

We have ideas for Surfbukten 2024 and look forward to initiating even more collaborations with associations, organizations, and actors than before to create a wonderful hangout, a safe place, and attractive happenings for all ages.”

New Café and Expanded Offerings

This summer, an Attefall house will be placed between Surfbukten and Birgerparken to house a simple café with a larger selection than before. The new building will have running water, drainage, and storage facilities. Destination Östersund hopes to collaborate with associations and other actors to run the café on weekends.

Surfbukten will continue to offer popular activities such as wakeboarding, beach volleyball, and board games. Additionally, various events are planned for each week of the season.

Future Plans and Collaboration

Mikael Jonsson, CEO of Destination Östersund, emphasizes that while they are not typically in the business of running facilities, they believe it’s important for Surfbukten to continue and develop. They hope to eventually hand over the operation to another actor.

Surfbukten is scheduled to open in mid-June, coinciding with the end of the school year. As in previous years, it will be staffed primarily by summer workers from Östersund Municipality under the supervision of Destination Östersund.
