Surfbukten Opens for the Season on June 14th
Östersund’s favorite summer hangout, Surfbukten, is set to open its doors for the season on Friday, June 14th. Destination Östersund is kicking off the summer with a bang, welcoming both new and returning visitors to this exciting beach-like destination.
Schools Out: A Grand Opening Celebration
The opening day will feature “Schools Out,” an event open to all but especially geared towards high school students. Bea Olsson, project manager for Surfbukten, says:
“The idea is that we’re starting off with a big party in Surfbukten which is, of course, alcohol and drug-free. After that, we’ll continue the summer with both self-guided activities and events popping up in Surfbukten. It feels really exciting to get started, to go from the planning stage to a finished result.”
The grand opening will include:
- Live music performances by Theo Rosén and CozyBoys
- DJ sets by DJ 3dvin & DJ Bird
- Beach volleyball tournament
- Free wakeboarding
- Competitions and prizes
- BBQ burgers
- A Beach Bar serving non-alcoholic drinks and snacks
New Features for the 2024 Season
This year, Surfbukten introduces several new attractions:
- New jumps and rails in the wakeboard park
- Corn hole game
- Fresh paint job in colors matching Östersund’s brand platform
Popular activities returning this season include yoga, beach volleyball, sauna, longboard rentals, chess, and plenty of space for spontaneous activities and movement.
Community Involvement: Local Associations Run the Café
A new café building is expected to open after Midsummer, offering heartier snacks suitable for lunch, along with ice cream, drinks, and pastries. On weekends, various Östersund associations will operate the café to raise funds for their activities.
Bea Olsson explains:
“In the spring, we reached out to associations interested in running the café on weekends, just to keep Surfbukten open every day of the week. Nine associations showed interest and have now been given a weekend each this summer. The associations get the cash register’s net profit for the weekend, and we’re very happy that so many showed interest and that we get a chance to collaborate with them.”
Participating associations include Östersund Basket Youth, Spilloteket, RFSL, Cosmos Football Club, Roller Derby Östersund, Östersund Floorball, Brunflo FK, and Jämtland Floorball.
Surfbukten aims to be an inviting place for everyone, whether visiting alone, with friends, or with family. The team looks forward to building on the successful concept and attracting even more visitors this summer.
