Destination Östersund Opens New Hotel with Over 100 Beds

The need for more hotel rooms in Östersund has been a hot topic in recent years, and now Destination Östersund is taking matters into their own hands. For the summer season of 2025, they are opening a brand new hotel with over 100 beds – strategically located in one of the city’s most scenic environments.

“We have listened to the demand and found a solution that combines sustainability with unique experiences. Our new hotel perfectly blends into the surrounding environment and benefits both the tourism industry and the local eco-balance,” says Calle Hedman, urban development specialist at Destination Östersund.

    Innovative Design and Location

The new hotel will feature an innovative and nature-close design that attracts both long-distance tourists and local residents. The facility will be placed at Surfbukten, offering a lodging experience beyond the ordinary – perfect for the adventurous traveler.

    Unique Approach to Construction

“Getting a building permit for the hotel proved to be quite complicated. Just like with the Bus Square, Open-Air Bath, Ecodata Center, and houses along Storsjöstrand, many had opinions and filed appeals.”

The development team found a creative solution by applying for an event permit instead of a building permit, which needs to be renewed every two weeks. They plan to constantly create new events to maintain their unique approach.

    Hotel Highlights

    • Over 100 beds
    • Located at Surfbukten
    • Two building structures
    • Color design following the Jämtland flag
