Finalists Announced for the Lalander of the Year Award
Destination Östersund and Näringsidkarna have revealed the finalists for this year’s Lalander of the Year award. The prize aims to recognize businesses or individuals who contribute to increasing Östersund’s attractiveness, with a focus on circularity that enhances the city center’s appeal.
The Three Finalists
1. Vinylhem
Vinylhem has created a meeting place centered around music and experiences. The jury noted: “With courage and a sense of quality, Vinylhem has created a reason to visit the city center where both vinyl and CD records get a new life with new owners.”
2. Brukat
Brukat reflects circularity and sustainability in a modern and chic way. According to the jury: “With great customer focus, events, and the garment’s best interests in mind, they stay seasonal and keep the store constantly relevant. Their business idea has spread inspiration and innovation to more stores and individuals.”
3. Hamngatan 12
Hamngatan 12 runs a café and restaurant business that embodies circularity. The jury stated: “The interior consists of recycled furniture that is for sale, and the food they serve is largely based on fruit and vegetables reclaimed in the fight against food waste.”
Insights from the Organizers
Mikael Jonsson, CEO of Destination Östersund, commented on the finalists:
“We all need to contribute to a more circular society. Our three finalists make you want to visit the city center while showcasing a more sustainable lifestyle. They also contribute with events and experiences that attract visitors to their own business but also make the city center more attractive.”
Emil Danielsson, representing Näringsidkarna, an non-profit association promoting trade and business in Östersund, added:
“With the award, we want to highlight inspiring entrepreneurs who are good role models and who contribute to developing Östersund.”
About the Lalander Award
The prize is awarded in memory of the Lalander couple, who were influential in Östersund’s business community from the 1940s to the 1970s. The award, which includes a prize sum of 20,000 SEK, goes to an individual or legal entity that has positively impacted Östersund’s attractiveness and contributed to the destination’s development, thereby benefiting its trade.
The winner will be announced at the upcoming Guldgala event.
