The tourism industry in Östersund, Sweden has achieved a significant milestone, generating over 1 billion SEK in revenue for 2023. This accomplishment fulfills a goal set in 2018 as part of a plan to develop the region’s tourism sector.

“The pandemic seemed to affect the possibility of reaching the goal for a long time, and we talked about postponing the goal until 2025. It is all the more gratifying that we can now state that the goal has been achieved. It shows that the tourism industry in Östersund has been and continues to be important for Östersund’s development.”

- Maintained occupancy rate at 66%
- Increased average daily visitor spending by 10%, from 580 SEK per day
- Improved guest satisfaction to 4.4 on a 5-point scale

According to Lars Häreblad from NordAnalys:
“The total turnover of 1,016 million kronor, a 9% increase, is estimated to provide a total employment effect equivalent to 1,134 annual jobs, as a combination of direct and indirect effects.”
