Visit Skåne Paves the Way for Inclusive Culture and Tourism: When a Ramp is Not Enough
Visit Skåne is initiating a crucial conversation about accessibility and inclusivity in cultural destinations during the Folk & Culture political convention in Eskilstuna. Their groundbreaking seminar, “Invisible Needs but Visible Responsibility,” focuses on challenges and opportunities to make cultural spaces more welcoming, especially for individuals with invisible disabilities.
A Vision for Inclusive Tourism
Visit Skåne is positioning Sweden as an open, sustainable, and inclusive destination for visitors with neurodivergent conditions. The initiative takes inspiration from Malmö Konsthall’s upcoming project exploring underrepresented artistic perspectives through the lens of neurodiversity.
“Visit Skåne works to promote tourism, with inclusive place development and social sustainability as key themes. Cultural tourism is one of our focus areas. In the intersection of culture, tourism, and neurodivergent visitors, there’s much room for improvement from a Nordic perspective.”
These words from Max Granström, CEO of Visit Skåne, highlight the organization’s commitment to driving meaningful change in the tourism sector.
Collaborative Approach to Accessibility
Visit Skåne has partnered with Malmö Konsthall to advance this important agenda. Their collaboration will continue throughout the year, particularly in connection with the “Speaking Volumes” exhibition featuring artists with diverse abilities.
“By making adaptations for visitors with non-traditional functionality, Malmö Konsthall can set a standard for accessibility and inclusion, becoming a force for positive societal change. This can inspire other public and private actors and lead to a more inclusive tourism and cultural life.”
