World Memory Championships 2024: Sharpest Brains Compete in Lund, Sweden
Can you memorize one hundred unknown faces with their first and last names? For memory champions participating in the World Memory Championships from November 21-24, this is no challenge at all. This year, the championship will be held in Lund, Sweden, thanks to support from Visit Skåne and Lund Municipality.
Championship Details
Participants will compete in ten different disciplines, including memorizing:
- Random numbers
- Historical figures
- Multiple card decks
What Makes This Event Special
“Sweden has previously produced world champions in memory sports, but now we’re making history by hosting the championships for the first time. It feels especially good that the event has been awarded to Lund, the city that symbolizes knowledge more than any other in Sweden,” says Martin Nilsson, memory master, teacher at Lund Cathedral School, and local ambassador for the World Memory Championships.
Public Engagement
While competition events will be closed, the public is welcome to attend free lectures about memory, learning, and brain functions. These lectures will be held at Botulfshörnan in Stadshallen, Lund.
“The Memory Championship reminds us of the fantastic capacity we humans have, and it feels both inspiring and fun to welcome these memory artists to Lund. Their skill is truly impressive, and perhaps we’ll all be reminded and learn a method to better remember a few more birthdays,” says Rasmus Törnblom, First Vice Chairman of the Municipal Board.
