Behind the Scenes at SM-Week: An Interview with Mats Söderbom

Meet the Logistics Mastermind

Mats Söderbom is one of the key local figures behind the event, serving as the logistics coordinator for the Winter SM-Week in Borås. We sat down with him to learn more about his role and expectations.

The “Slasktratt” Role

When asked about his responsibilities, Mats explains, “My biggest task is to ensure smooth logistics around the arenas. This means helping all associations and preparing everything from venues and parking to infrastructure for TV production. I call it the ‘slasktratt’ (catch-all) role because I handle all kinds of questions and problems that arise.”

Key Challenges

Mats highlights two major challenges:

• Managing extensive equipment needs, including repairs and protection
• Collaborating closely with SVT to ensure high-quality TV production

He notes special attention to e-sports, which requires extra capacity for fiber connections and power supply.

Professional Background

In his regular role, Mats works as the head of property, sports, and construction services for Borås City Service Office. With previous experience in large events and participation in SM-Week in 2014 and 2017, he knows what it takes to make everything run smoothly.

What Excites Him Most

“What’s amazing about SM-Week,” Mats says, “is that small sports get as much attention as large ones. I’m really looking forward to witnessing athletic performances where ordinary people, humble and unpretentious, come and perform at a high level. It’s truly inspiring!”

Must-See Event

Mats recommends not missing the ski competitions: “They’ll take place Thursday evening and continue through Friday and Saturday – a fantastic chance to experience winter sports up close!”
