October Newsletter: Öland Extends Summer Joys into Autumn
As the summer lingers on Öland, Sweden’s sunniest island, we continue to welcome visitors to experience our year-round charms. Though we cherish the golden hues and cozy cafés of autumn, this extended summer offers a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy shorts weather well into October.
Tourist Office on Tour
This summer, our tourist office staff traveled to 18 different locations across Öland to inform visitors about the island’s attractions. Using VR goggles, we illustrated “All of Öland – All Year Round”, showcasing the island’s beauty in every season. We also conducted a visitor survey, collecting nearly 850 responses.
New Illustrated Öland Map
We’ve created a playful new product – an illustrated map of Öland that doubles as a high-quality poster. It captures the island’s iconic windmills, sunny beaches, and cultural landmarks. The map is available for purchase online and at the Färjestaden tourist office.
Record-Breaking Summer Visitors
Öland saw impressive visitor numbers from June to August, with over 1.25 million commercial guest nights booked. International visitors increased by 13.5%, with German tourists showing the largest growth. While 91% of visitors came during the summer months, we see enormous potential for growth in the other nine months of the year.
Autumn Break Activities
The upcoming autumn break offers exciting activities for all ages. Major attractions like Borgholm Castle, Eketorp Fort, and Ottenby Nature Reserve will be open. The “Light on Culture” festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary, will illuminate the autumn darkness with hundreds of colorful cultural events across Öland and Kalmar.
Partnership Opportunities
We invite businesses to join Partnerskap Öland to help develop and market the island. This partnership enables enhanced visibility for Öland both regionally and nationally. Interested parties can visit our website or contact Nadia Byåker for more information.
Upcoming Business Events
- October 17: Workshop on stress management in leadership at Halltorp’s Inn
- October 24: ALMI workshop on market understanding at Öland’s Bank in Färjestaden
Together, we continue to build and promote Öland as a year-round destination, showcasing its unique charm in every season.
