New Report from Visit Skåne Could Boost Swedish Event Industry

Visit Skåne has released a groundbreaking report that could provide greater and clearer value for the entire event industry in Sweden. The report offers opportunities for deeper insights into how the industry can measure tourism economic effects using a unified method. This means investors, organizers, politicians, and others will have better data for decision-making, potentially strengthening the industry as a whole.

Swedish events generate over 53 billion SEK annually. With the need for a united industry greater than ever, this report aims to synchronize efforts at a national level towards common goals. By providing relevant data and compiled statistics, it can enhance credibility and quality in the industry while ensuring decisions are based on facts.

Key Findings Presented at Ystad Summit

The full report will be presented at Ystad Summit, an open forum for societal issues. Event researcher Robert Pettersson from ETOUR will explain how different events can be measured sustainably and long-term. The seminar “The Actual Values of Events” will be held on September 4th from 16:00-16:45.

Visit Skåne’s analyst Viktor Johansson Bytyqi will moderate a panel discussion on the topic with guests including:

    • Henrik Gidlund, Unit Manager at Helsingborg Convention and Event Bureau
    • Maria Hallberg, Project Manager for International Sports Events at the Swedish Sports Confederation
    • Magnus Nilsson, Event Director for the World Floorball Championship 2024

    Importance of Unified Measurement

The report focuses on providing guidance and recommendations for a unified approach to measuring event impacts. This consistency can lead to increased reliability, efficiency, and transparency, offering a more cohesive picture of how events affect local and regional economies.

“In Ystad we present important insights that are the result of a collaboration between researchers at Mid Sweden University and Visit Skåne during the spring of 2024.”

By adopting a standardized method, the event industry in Sweden can strengthen its position and provide more accurate data for future planning and investment.
