Finalists Announced for Årets Lalander Award in Östersund
Destination Östersund and Näringsidkarna have revealed the finalists for this year’s Årets Lalander (Lalander of the Year) award. The prize aims to recognize businesses or individuals who contribute to increasing Östersund’s attractiveness, with a focus on circularity that enhances the city center’s appeal.
The Three Finalists
1. Vinylhem
Vinylhem has created a meeting place centered on music and experiences. With courage and a sense of quality, Vinylhem has established a reason to visit the city center, giving vinyl and CD records a new life with new owners.
2. Brukat
Brukat reflects circularity and sustainability in a modern and chic way. With a strong customer focus, events, and attention to garments’ best interests, they keep the store constantly relevant according to seasons. Their business idea has spread inspiration and innovation to other stores and individuals.
3. Hamngatan 12
Hamngatan 12 runs a café and restaurant that embodies circularity. The interior consists of recycled furniture available for purchase, and the food they serve is largely based on fruits and vegetables salvaged in the fight against food waste.
Importance of the Award
Mikael Jonsson, CEO of Destination Östersund, commented on the finalists:
“We all need to contribute to a more circular society. Our three finalists make you want to visit the city center while showcasing a more sustainable lifestyle. They also contribute with events and experiences that attract visitors to their own businesses and make the city center more attractive.”
Emil Danielsson, representing Näringsidkarna, a non-profit association promoting trade and business in Östersund, added:
“With this award, we want to highlight inspiring entrepreneurs who are good role models and who contribute to developing Östersund.”
About the Årets Lalander Award
The prize is awarded in memory of the Lalander couple, Gullan and Per, who ran clothing and outfitting businesses along Prästgatan from the 1940s to the 1970s. They were driving forces in the Näringsidkarna association for many years, with Per serving as chairman from 1960 to 1971.
The award, which includes a prize sum of 20,000 kronor, goes to an individual or legal entity that has impacted Östersund’s attractiveness, contributed to destination development, and thus benefited its commerce.
The jury consists of representatives from Destination Östersund and Näringsidkarna.
