World Sleddog Championship Returns to Östersund in 2025
Östersund, Sweden, will once again host the World Sleddog Association (WSA) World Championship from February 7-9, 2025. The event will feature both sprint and middle-distance races, attracting approximately 150 mushers and 1,100 dogs from 20 countries.
A Major Step Forward for Sleddog Sports
Following the success of the 2022 championship, WSA President Arno Steichler expressed enthusiasm for returning to Östersund:
“After the 2022 World Championship in Östersund, the competitors were full of praise for the perfect organization of the championships, and they unanimously stated that Östersund had the best tracks they had ever competed on. And we look forward to another World Championship in Östersund.”
Project Manager Niklas Andersson added:
“The 2022 World Championship in Östersund elevated sleddog sports, and we are incredibly grateful that Östersund welcomes us again in 2025. This time, we hope to avoid the problems that the pandemic caused last time and focus fully on the event.”
Strengthening Östersund as an Event City
Jessica Thylin from Destination Östersund emphasized the importance of hosting international competitions:
“We are both proud and happy that WSA is choosing Östersund again. Every international competition contributes to strengthening Östersund as an event city. This becomes a different form of winter sport than what we are used to and feels exciting.”
Göran Matzén from the Culture and Leisure Department of Östersund Municipality added:
“It’s fantastic to bring the Sleddog World Championship to Östersund once again. Through this, we show that Östersund’s ski stadium is a winter arena for many of the major winter sports.”
